Chapter One

Why a Boler?

That is usually the first question somebody asks me.

In the winter of 2020, I laid my eyes on the cutest little camper I had ever seen while I was in Dundurn, Saskatchewan with my dad. I asked him, “what is that??” He told the that it was a Boler camper, made in the late 60s. They are iconic for their egg-like shape, and weighing only 800lbs. It sounded way up my ally. If theres anything you should know about me, it’s that I love anything that is cute and mini (hence the cupcakes!)

Immediately I saw potential in this little camper, and a new dream right in front of my eyes! For the next 2 years I drove past that Boler in Dundurn, hoping I would still see it every time. I talked about it all the time to my friends and family, as the potential my next step in my business. If I’m being honest, no one was fully on board with my vision, and the “practicality” of such a small space was their main point of concern. - And truthfully so, but as I mentioned, I have always loved mini things, even if functionality is slightly sacrificed. They say, “if it’s important enough to you, you will find a way.” I let nearly 3 years pass to think on it and see if the pop-up trailer concept still made sense in my business. In April 2022, I still could not stop thinking about the Boler! I briefly browsed Kijiji and MarketPlace, but this was still in the middle of the increased prices of both gas and recreational trailers. Boler always marketed themselves as a lightweight trailer that is very economic to tow, so prices skyrocketed.

For months I tried pursuing the Boler in Dundurn by knocking on neighbours doors next to the property, but I could not figure out who owned it, as the land was unoccuopied. I even called the Town Hall 3 different times to ask if they could give me the contact to the land owner, but unfortunately they could not disclose any of their information. One day as a last-ditch resort, I decided I would leave a note on the Boler in Dundurn. I thought there could be a chance the owner of the land would see it and be interested in selling it. So, I left the note stuck in the door, and waited…

If you’re thinking this is where the happy ending finally comes, well, it doesn’t… 4 months later I received this text message:

To my disappointment, the letter never made it into the hands of the owner.

Checking Kijiji and Marketplace became my daily task
